Privacy Policy

The Fit Check is an app for posting outfits and shopping the pieces in them. It is run by Sherbet Agency (Pty) Ltd, South Africa ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to meet South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), name and username. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
- Profile details you choose to add: photo, bio, city, size, body type, style preferences and social media handles.
- What you post: outfit photos and videos, captions, locations you type in, tags, polls and comments.
- Activity in the app: likes, saves, follows, votes, blocks, reports, and taps through to stores (used to measure which products people shop).
- Device details: a push-notification token if you allow notifications.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your posts to other users according to your settings.
- To identify the clothes in your outfit photos and match them to products in stores (see "AI features" below).
- To send notifications you have allowed and emails you ask for, such as password reset codes.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reports, removing content that breaks our Terms, and blocking abusive accounts.
- To understand which features and stores people use, so we can improve the app and report shopping clicks to retail partners in aggregate.
AI features
When you use auto-detect, "complete the look" or visual search, the outfit photo is sent to Google's Gemini model through Google Cloud Vertex AI to identify garments. Google processes the image on our behalf and does not use it to train its models. The results are stored with your post.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who run the app for us:
- Convex (database, file storage and sign-in hosting)
- Google Cloud (AI image analysis, and Google sign-in if you use it)
- Pipedream and Microsoft 365 (sending account emails such as password reset codes)
- Apple and Google push-notification services
Posts and profiles you make public can be seen by anyone with the app or a share link. When you tap a product, you leave the app for the retailer's site, and their own privacy policy applies; some links carry an affiliate tag so the retailer knows the visit came from The Fit Check.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, posts, comments, likes, saves, votes, follows and notifications. Records of taps through to stores are kept for partner reporting, but are no longer linked to any name, email or profile.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete any post, and edit your profile, at any time in the app.
- Delete your account in the app under Edit profile → Delete my account, or by emailing us.
- Turn notifications off in your device settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to object to how we use it, by emailing ai@sherbetagency.com. You may also complain to South Africa's Information Regulator.
Children
The Fit Check is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access limited to the people who run the app. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
